Your data, handled properly.
Signal is a UK-based cloud platform, built to UK and EU data protection standards. This page sets out what we collect, why, and how you control it.
Who we are
Signal is a product of DataDirect Intelligence, a software and infrastructure consultancy registered and operating in N. Ireland. All Signal data is hosted in the United Kingdom.
For your operational data we act as a data processor on your behalf. For account data (your login and organisation details) we are the data controller.
What we collect
Account data
When you create a Signal tenancy we store your name, work email, organisation name, and login credentials (password hashes only). We do not collect personal payment card details directly: payments are handled by our PCI-DSS compliant payment provider.
Operational data
Signal processes the data your hardware generates: tag identifiers, gateway identifiers, location references, sensor readings and alert events. This is the data that makes the product work.
Usage and diagnostic data
We collect standard web and mobile app telemetry: pages viewed, feature usage, error reports and device type. This helps us find bugs and improve the product.
What we don't do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not share your operational data with third parties for advertising.
- We do not use your data to train AI models, and it is never used to train public ones. Signal AI (Swift) can only access data your account already has permission to see.
Where your data lives
All customer operational data is stored in UK data centres. Backups and disaster recovery copies are also held in the UK. Some diagnostic and logging services are provided by reputable EU or UK-based subprocessors. A full list is available on request.
How long we keep it
We keep your operational data for as long as your Signal tenancy is active. When you cancel, we retain data for 30 days to allow recovery, then permanently delete it. Audit logs may be retained longer where required by your industry regulator.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, export and erase your personal data. You can action most of these directly from your Signal tenancy. For anything you can't, email hello@datadirect.co.uk and we'll respond within one working day.
Cookies
This marketing site uses essential cookies only. We do not set tracking or advertising cookies. The Signal web app uses session cookies required to keep you signed in.
Changes
We may update this page as Signal evolves. Material changes will be announced in-app before they take effect.
